Here we are again, another month gone by and fall quickly upon us. There is a lot going on this month in the great and colorful world of The Treasure Map. We have seen many signs of the changing of the seasons. The humming birds have long gone south and the swallows are following. We have seen the first of the pelicans coming north to the lake already too. The leaves are starting to turn and we’ve had many cool and clear nights as well. Seems like things are about three weeks early this year. You can almost see the anticipation in the air as the farmers are preparing for the harvest with all the last minute organization and maintenance of equipment and spot checking of the fields soon to be bare and ready for their long winters nap. It reminds me of younger days growing up on the farm. Days when all I had to focus on was trying to talk my dad into letting me drive the tractor while my older sisters had to ride in the wagons. Things were much simpler for us kids back then. I never saw the struggle that my parents made in order to feed and clothe seven kids. If your struggling with the economy, don’t worry about if the kids have everything they want. They will be fine. Just give them plenty of love and they too will remember these as the good old days. After all, hard times make for good stories in our latter years. And we all need to have good stories to tell our grand kids. NO, we aren’t having grandkids yet. Mary is not ready to be a grandma and Tim is only focused on finishing school and getting into the working world. Soon after this issue is printed, Tim will be graduating from Full Sail University in Winter Park Florida with his degree in “3D Hard Surface Animation” – or something like that. Best as I can figure, it is computerised special effects for the entertainment and gaming industries. So if you have any connections, he will be needing a job. He is near the top of his class and we are very proud of him. It is really amazing the things he can do with a computer. It looks more like science fiction or something from the future. I guess the future is today. It’s great to live in a country where we can both be on the cutting edge of the future and still be able to take a stroll down memory lane. Take your Treasure Map and use our web site, your GPS and your talking cars, and any other futuristic convinces you have. Use them to enjoy a laid back day of browsing and shopping in some of the many beautiful stores you find in our book. While remembering the good old days. It is a fantastic time of year to be out and about. Many of our stores and towns are having fall sales, festivals and other fun filled events to celebrate the harvest season. Everywhere from LeClair IA to Broadhead WI and from Ridgefield and Genoa IL to Springfield and Carlyle IL. We also have quite a few new stores in the book this month. Broken Spoke Clinton IA and in Milan IL we have Floral Connection Craft & Antique Mall. Happy Trails in Dixon is back at it after a tough time with health issues and in Poplar Grove we would like to welcome Second Hand Rose. Family Heirlooms in Waukesha WI is making good headway with their new location as well as Thriftique Antiques & Primitives in Roscoe. I almost forgot to mention Exquisite Revisit in Berwin is back with us. They are right next to Serendipity Antiques. Some of these stores are brand new and some are just new to us. I probably missed a couple but not on purpose. You will want to dig extra deep in the magazine this month to find all the events and new stores too. Be sure to thank them for being in business and tell them that The Treasure Map sent you.
Until next time, jibe ho!
